The Owatonna Curling organizations
utilize a building on the Steele County Fair Grounds for our curling
season. Over the past 30+ years we've made incremental updates to our
portion of the building but the time has come to rebuild the warm room and
off-ice area.
Our current warm room is rather small for curling tournaments, has numerous
soft spots in the floor and ceiling, and carpet with a funky smell.
We also have a large area next to the warm room that isn't heated and could be better utilized if it was part of the warm room. When we change over from a curling club back to a fair building this area gets inundated with water from the melting curling ice.
Our locker room is a temporary, single room that gets crowded during league and tournaments. Since this room is part of the entryway dirt and grit get tracked onto the ice from this area.
To modernize this space we're tearing
out all the existing structure and rebuilding from scratch. Our plans
include:
* A separate viewing area from the curling area via tall windows running the
entire space giving us additional, heated, club space. An exterior-grade
wall separates the ice from the curling club area preventing moisture from
entering the club space,
* Separate locker rooms instead of a single shared space with controlled access
onto the ice (no more grit on the ice), and
* A kitchen area where we can store and prepare food
Check out the plans!
We need your help with purchasing
building materials for this project. The windows we need are special order
and provide us with unobstructed views of the curling area. The exterior
grade wall requires special material to prevent moisture from entering the club
space. All donations will go toward building materials for this
project.
We'll share updates here as we progress through the various tear-down and
construction phases.
As a thank you for donating we will memorialize your contribution in the new
facility.
